First Nations Mental Health First Aid – Kaurna/Adelaide

The Gov, Hindmarsh SA
FREE

Event

1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health problem in any given year and mental ill health is disproportionately higher for those who work in music.

For First Nations peoples, these statistics are even higher, with the rate of psychological distress 2.4 times that of non-Indigenous people

This makes mental health everybody’s business.

Support Act are bringing the nationally-accredited Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid training to musicians, managers, crew and music workers again this year.

This course is specifically targeted at First Nations peoples and non-Indigenous people working with First Nations peoples.

****

The First Nations Mental Health First Aid covers similar content to the Standard MHFA, with a further look into mental wellbeing for First Nations peoples including statistics, case studies and experiences.

You will build knowledge around mental illnesses and learn the skills and confidence to assess and respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.

You’ll learn how to:
  • Recognise common mental health issues
  • Provide initial help using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan
  • Respond in a Mental Health crisis situation
  • Seek appropriate professional help

The First Nations Mental Health First Aid program is nationally accredited and costs $330 but Support Act is providing this training to anyone who works in the music industry for free, as the learning is so vital for a mentally healthier economically vibrant music industry.
