The board of Support Act is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced people to be considered for appointment to the Board of Directors.

Support Act is the heart and hand of the Australian music industry. We are the music industry’s charity, providing crisis relief, mental health and wellbeing support to musicians, managers, crew, music workers and organisations across all genres of music.

We deliver this through short term financial support; funeral support; mental health prevention, education and training programs; the Mentally Healthy Workplaces Program; and the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline.

Support Act is an industry leader in cultural and behavourial change, and we strive to create a safe and thriving music industry for all, including dedicated culturally intelligent support for First Nations music workers.

The role of the board is to provide governance and strategic leadership to the organisation and currently predominantly comprises people drawn from the Australian music industry. Director positions are voluntary and there is no remuneration.

Meetings and commitments:

The Board of Directors meets a minimum of five times a year. Directors may also be required from time to time to participate in a sub-committee of the board.

Expectations of board members includes:

  • Attend and actively participate in meetings
  • Stay informed about board and committee matters, prepare well for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports
  • Serve on sub-committees
  • Build a collegial working relationship with other board members
  • Be prepared to contribute to board discussions
  • Utilise own skills, experience and knowledge to support the growth and success of the organisation.
  • Familiarise yourself with our mission, strategy, policies, services and finances
  • Understand our operating context


At this time, we are seeking a director with the following background and career profile:

  • Clinical
  • Commercial/ financial
  • Philanthropic


We strongly encourage and welcome applications from people who offer experience, expertise and knowledge across one or more of the below listed criteria. Interested parties with music industry experience, including direct experience as a performer, songwriter, crew member or other industry worker will also be considered.
