The Malcolm Savage Appeal
They say bad luck comes in threes and Malcolm has certainly been having a bad run in terms of his health over the past year, which has greatly affected his ability to work and earn an income.
First up he had to deal with kidney stones, then knee problems that resulted in 6 months of steroid use, and in the past 3 weeks, he has been diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes which have rendered him legally blind and unable to work. He now requires someone to help him getting around outside his apartment as he really can’t see; and he is behind on his rent and struggling to pay for food and utilities.
The Public Health System can offer him the surgery he requires to restore his sight but there is a 12 month waiting list. In order to keep working, he needs to raise $4,000 in the next 3 weeks to get a heavily discounted surgery performed on one of his eyes, as that will give him enough vision to regain his independence and return to work.
Malcolm first came to Australia in 1985 on the Ronnie’s tour after working in New Zealand for 10 years as a lighting engineer. He was employed at The Regent Theatre as head of electrics in charge of lighting from 1985 until 1992 and then worked for the Victorian State Opera, QPAC, and was Technical Director for Michael Edgley – covering The Russian Ballet, Torvil and Dean, Cats and special effects for Dame Edna. He is now a consultant designing sound lighting video systems for many institutions and theatres.
Our hope is that Malcolm’s friends and work colleges would like to help him in his time of need and help raise the $4,000 he needs for his cataract operation.
