Support Act, has announced the hire of Willem Brussen as its new First Nations Social Worker.
A proud Baramadagal/Burramattagal man of Dharug Country with Dutch, German, Irish and English ancestries, Willem has grown up and lives off-country on Wurundjeri Country.
He boasts a decade of experience across the homelessness, disability and Aboriginal support sectors including youth specific programs, community outreach programs for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, and working with culturally diverse communities. Willem has a strong sense of social justice and values the need for human connection.
Willem will be joining the charity’s crisis relief team, reporting to Crisis Relief Team Leader, Angela Doolan, as the first point of contact for any First Nations music workers needing crisis relief, mental health or wellbeing support.
He will also be working with First Nations Programs Lead, Will Oui, a proud Meriam man from Zenadth Kes (the Torres Strait Islands) with strong connections to the Samsep peoples from Erub (Darnley Island).
